Yes, Relationships DO Affect Care

Posted by Team DEXIS

Content provided by Lisa Nulty, RDH, M. Ed

Hygienist_wSensor_and_Patient_FB.jpgIt’s no secret that doctor-patient relationships are very important in building and maintaining a successful practice. When patients trust their caregivers, they are more likely to follow instructions. In my 26 years of working with dentists and their practices, I have witnessed firsthand how building these relationships and educating patients has resulted in people seeking routine, timely care. That means that patients are not only interested in addressing problems, but also are scheduling regular checkups to keep their teeth healthy which in turn, allows the clinician more opportunity for early diagnosis of dental disease.

To DEXIS, With Pride

Posted by Team DEXIS

Pride_BOC_LogosWhen DEXIS adds a new product to its imaging brand, it’s going to be the best. When CariVu™ and DEXIS™ Imaging Suite both won “Best of Class” Technology Awards, we were thrilled to hear that technology leaders in the dental field agreed that those products achieved our lofty goals. Launched 7 years ago, “Best of Class” Technology Awards recognize innovative products that set a quality standard in their respective categories. The process is unbiased and non-profit, and the designation is awarded after a rigorous and uncompromising selection process. The panel, comprised of a respected group of technology leaders in dentistry, seeks out “game changing” products that they feel will have significant impact. There is no “check-box template” during the voting process. While some products are so new and different that they literally create their own category, some tried-and-true traditional products affirm their quality and class leadership year after year.

Winning smiles and winning contests

Posted by Team DEXIS

Ellis_2After 37 years of helping patients maintain their winning smiles, Dr. David Ellis also has a winning track record with contests. After winning a DEXcam™ intraoral camera just a few years ago, most recently, he won a CariVu™ caries detection device as part of the company’s 2014 Win CariVu sweepstakes. Dr. David, along with his son, Dr. Jonathan Ellis, already began using it in their Hopewell, Virginia dental practice. Julia Ellis, office manager and Dr. David’s wife, noted that they had considered scheduling a CariVu demonstration, but she added, “Winning is much better!” She also said that in the short time since they have had this near infrared technology device in the office, “We have used it to verify cavities found on X-rays. Dr. Jonathan has also used it on several young adults with numerous incipient lesions as an additional detection and educational tool.”

Use ALL your images to help gain insurance coverage

Posted by Team DEXIS

drlougraham2The process of insurance authorization and payments can be challenging both for the dental office and patients. Denial of claims is all too often a response from an insurance company, and the question is, how do we get more acceptances for our procedures?  Seeing is believing, and comprehensive imaging — X-ray, camera, and more — can be the key to achieving coverage. For one of Dr. Lou Graham’s patients, a CariVu™ image helped to change a denial to acceptance. CariVu, the transillumination technology caries detection device, can be used to identify occlusal, interproximal and recurrent carious lesions and cracks, even at the beginning stages.

CariVu: Love at First Sight

Posted by Team DEXIS

Eileen_1A while back, I had just been to the dentist and was feeling pretty proud of my cavity-free mouth, when I received an e-mail from DEXIS inviting me to learn about and train on their new caries detection device, CariVu™. Don't tell anyone at DEXIS, but I groaned inside. I've been in dentistry for 20 years and have seen and evaluated a lot of caries detection devices. A few were good, but more were not that impressive. All the caries detection devices that I had used gave information that was highly subjective and sometimes difficult to interpret. However, I knew that DEXIS doesn’t put its name on anything but the best, so I decided to participate.

Lucky you, Dr. Yu!

Sometimes when “Lady Luck” smiles on a person, exciting and unexpected things happen. It may even turn out to be a transilluminating experience! This was the case, when Dr. Holman Yu’s office manager, who is also his wife, Inez Luk, was searching the DEXIS website. She recalls, “I was looking for the phone number for tech support and stumbled upon the contest. I saw the promo video and thought CariVu™ was an interesting caries detection device. I could see the benefits of having one. So I entered for a chance to win.”
