Winning smiles and winning contests

Posted by Team DEXIS

Ellis_2After 37 years of helping patients maintain their winning smiles, Dr. David Ellis also has a winning track record with contests. After winning a DEXcam™ intraoral camera just a few years ago, most recently, he won a CariVu™ caries detection device as part of the company’s 2014 Win CariVu sweepstakes. Dr. David, along with his son, Dr. Jonathan Ellis, already began using it in their Hopewell, Virginia dental practice. Julia Ellis, office manager and Dr. David’s wife, noted that they had considered scheduling a CariVu demonstration, but she added, “Winning is much better!” She also said that in the short time since they have had this near infrared technology device in the office, “We have used it to verify cavities found on X-rays. Dr. Jonathan has also used it on several young adults with numerous incipient lesions as an additional detection and educational tool.”

Use ALL your images to help gain insurance coverage

Posted by Team DEXIS

drlougraham2The process of insurance authorization and payments can be challenging both for the dental office and patients. Denial of claims is all too often a response from an insurance company, and the question is, how do we get more acceptances for our procedures?  Seeing is believing, and comprehensive imaging — X-ray, camera, and more — can be the key to achieving coverage. For one of Dr. Lou Graham’s patients, a CariVu™ image helped to change a denial to acceptance. CariVu, the transillumination technology caries detection device, can be used to identify occlusal, interproximal and recurrent carious lesions and cracks, even at the beginning stages.

Sometimes when “Lady Luck” smiles on a person, exciting and unexpected things happen. It may even turn out to be a transilluminating experience! This was the case, when Dr. Holman Yu’s office manager, who is also his wife, Inez Luk, was searching the DEXIS website. She recalls, “I was looking for the phone number for tech support and stumbled upon the contest. I saw the promo video and thought CariVu™ was an interesting caries detection device. I could see the benefits of having one. So I entered for a chance to win.”

DEXIS helps with “quick and decisive action”

Zhne_neu_3When planning a trip to the U.S., tourists prepare for fun and adventure. However, a different type of trip that a German tourist recently took on Lombard Street in San Francisco was a very unwelcome surprise.  After she fell, her husband saw that her bridge had fallen out, and her face was bloody. He thought fast and Googled “dentist” on his iPad. Dr. Cynthia K. Brattesani’s name came up on the search as very close to them.

Dr. Brattesani and her team were just about to start their lunch hour when, as she describes, “a tourist entered our office holding some teeth in her hands

Pictures and images worth a thousand words

DEXcam_Asst-PatientInventor and icon of success, Walt Disney, once said, “Of all of our inventions for mass communication, pictures still speak the most universally understood language.” His quote on the value of imaging in reaching people and communicating ideas is definitely not just a Mickey Mouse theory. Whereas dentists are trained to read and interpret X-rays, sometimes patients appreciate seeing images in a more familiar way.  DEXcam™ intra-oral cameras can support radiographic findings and show patients chips, cracks, leaking restorations, calculus, periodontal abnormalities and other disease symptoms in a format that they understand and can see clearly.
